Assembly and installation of open cabinets

Guide for assembling and installing open cabinets: necessary tools and specific steps for assembling and installing low, high, and wall-mounted open cabinets

Open cabinets are design and storage elements within the kitchen's layout. They can be made to standard dimensions or customised and are classified by their location: low unit, wall unit, and high unit. The assembly and installation instructions vary slightly depending on the type of unit:

The assembly is straightforward, performed using hidden biscuits, which are detachable assembly elements that provide stability and rigidity to the structure, achieving a robust, aesthetically pleasing, and detachable outcome. This system allows the assembly to be completed through a 4mm hole, which is concealed using included caps.

Preparation:

  1. Ensure all pieces are included in the package: hardware, hangers, metal caps, and shelf supports.
  2. Each cabinet piece is identified with a sticker with a code. These codes will facilitate the correct placement and assembly of the pieces.
  3. For assembly, you will need a 4mm Allen key and a drill, which are not included in the package.

Assembly:

  1. Place the central panels on one of the side panels. Use the Allen key to tighten and secure the pieces firmly.
  2. Position the back piece by sliding it through the slot over the fronts.
  3. Add the other side panel and secure each central panel with the Allen key. Insert the shelf supports into the pre-determined holes in the side panels. Then place the shelves on the supports so that the notches on the bottom fit correctly.

Installation:

Installation varies according to the type of open cabinet:

Low units and high units: Both are installed similarly.
  1. Legs: Both low and high units have METOD leg mechanisations. These help support the cabinet and ensure it is level.
  2. Depth: The standard depth for open cabinets is 39.6 cm. If a side of the cabinet is exposed, 62.3 cm side panels can be ordered to align them with the rest of the furniture.
  3. Flush alignment: Ensure that the front of the open cabinet protrudes 2.2 cm from the IKEA structure to align perfectly with your CUBRO fronts.

Wall units: Wall units require specific hardware to be hung, which is not the IKEA rail. To anchor these units to the wall, we send the unit machined with 2 hidden hangers on the back right and left and a hanger that must be placed on the wall.

Final adjustments:

  • Access the hanger screws through two circular drill holes on the front of the unit. Use these screws to adjust the height (lower hole) and depth of the unit (upper hole) relative to the wall. Once the unit is levelled, use the included caps to cover the screw access holes, ensuring a clean and professional finish.

Notes:

  • Keep in mind that each wall requires different types of wall plugs and screws.
  • The lower part of the wall hanger should be placed 7cm from where you want the furniture to end.
  • Remember, the IKEA rail CANNOT be behind the open unit.
