Step-by-step instructions
Fillers are essential pieces in most integrated furniture designs. They are placed in line with the fronts to cover the gaps between the furniture and the wall, providing a clean and aesthetic finish.
Ceiling closures serve the same purpose but from the top of the wall cabinets up to the ceiling. While the fillers are likely a must in all kitchens, a ceiling closure is an aesthetic decision that is subject to some characteristics of the room. Ask us if you would like to add a ceiling closure to your project and we will explore the options with our team of Design Experts.
Both CUBRO and IKEA supply fillers or ceiling closures in standard and oversized dimensions, so they can be cut on-site to precisely fit the final gap.
Since they must be adapted to the actual space, there is usually a leftover piece after cutting. This leftover can be reused as a mounting strip between the filler and the side panel of the cabinet, reducing material waste and improving the finish.
In case your caps are too tight or you don't have enough material left over, you can use any other offcuts you have of the same material. In case you don't have any left over, you can use mounting strips: easy to find in any DIY or construction store. Keep in mind that the finish of this could be seen depending on the position when you open the adjoining drawer or door.
Required Tools
- CUBRO fillers: Identified with the letter T, usually ↔12 cm wide and of variable length.
- ↔3,5 cm PZ screws
- ↔1,5 cm PZ screws
- Circular saw with a guide
- Measuring tape
- Drill
- If using ceiling closures, they are marked with the letters CT
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Measuring
Measure the space to be covered, from the last cabinet to the wall. We recommend subtracting 2 mm from the measurement to allow the adjacent door to open smoothly.

- Ceiling Closures
2. Cutting
Cut the filler on the side that will go against the wall, so that the front edge remains intact and visible when the door is opened.
Ensure straight cuts using the recommended saw guide. Check our cutting guide if you have any doubts.
3. Using the leftover as a mounting strip
Screw the leftover piece to the B side of the filler or ceiling closure, using screws no longer than 1,5 cm. This L-shaped piece will be attached to the adjacent cabinet.

4. Positioning
Place the filler or ceiling closure in the designated space, ensuring it is level. It should protrude from the IKEA structure by the thickness of the front + 3 mm clearance between the door and the frame.

LACA range: 18 + 3 = 21 mm
-
WOOD range: 19 + 3 = 22 mm
-
LAMINATE and LINOLEUM ranges: 20 + 3 = 23 mm
- From inside the cabinet, drill through the side until reaching the mounting strip.

5. Adjustments
Ensure all fillers are firmly attached and aligned. Make any necessary adjustments.
