With IKEA Components
In some kitchen configurations, whether by design necessity or aesthetic choice, it’s possible to join multiple fronts to achieve a continuous look or combined functionality. IKEA offers two solutions under the same name—UTRUSTA—but with very different applications. This guide explains their differences and recommended usage.
Door Connection Fitting
This fitting allows two doors to open simultaneously, providing a uniform finish for columns or storage cabinets. It should not be used if either of the fronts has only one hinge, as this would compromise the stability of the assembly.
- Recommended use:
- Door fronts with two or more hinges from storage modules.
- CUBRO Skirtboard Connector: see our Skirtboards Installation Guide.
- Not recommended for: 20 cm or 30 cm pull-out modules, where it may cause instability.
- Dimensions: ↔40 mm width x ↕128 mm height.
This connection fitting is only for joining doors that have two or more hinges.
If each door or drawer front has only one hinge, CUBRO recommends using the VÅGLIG fitting (see below).
Installation:
- Position the fitting and insert the plastic wedge between the two fronts through it to ensure proper spacing.
- Mark screw positions, keeping a minimum distance of 135 mm from the start of the front to the beginning of the fitting. The fitting should be installed on the opposite side of the hinges.
The UTRUSTA fitting must never align with the position of the CUBRO handle. If the front has a SQUARE or PILL handle, allow 3 cm clearance between the handle and the fitting.
VÅGLIG Fitting
The VÅGLIG fitting is a connector rail used to join two or more fronts into a single full-height door of ↕80 cm. This fitting is mandatory for IKEA dishwasher doors of ↔60 cm.
Unlike the UTRUSTA system, VÅGLIG has a larger size (74 cm long), allowing all fronts to be joined using a single mechanism.
It consists of two parallel rails with holes that align with the drillings on CUBRO fronts. All our dishwasher fronts are pre-drilled for this rail. Refer to our Dishwasher Door Installation Guide for further instructions.
If your dishwasher is not from IKEA, we do not recommend using multiple fronts instead of a single door, as we cannot guarantee compatibility with the fitting or ensure a secure connection.
- Recommended use:
- ↔60 cm IKEA dishwasher doors.
- Single-hinge drawer or washing machine doors.
- Not recommended for: non-IKEA dishwasher fronts.
- Dimensions: ↔71 mm width x ↕740 mm height.
Use the appropriate holes depending on how many fronts need to be joined. Refer to IKEA’s assembly guide for details.
Installation
- Screw the VÅGLIG fitting onto the CUBRO fronts, aligning with the pre-drilled holes.
- Join the fronts using the provided plastic wedge to ensure correct spacing. Repeat this for each front forming the combined door.
- For three or more fronts, use four additional screws to provide extra stability and prevent misalignment.
Drawer Front Connection Fitting
This rail-shaped fitting is designed to connect multiple drawer fronts and anchor them to the inner MAXIMERA drawer. It is ideal for setups where a multi-front appearance is desired without affecting drawer functionality.
- Recommended use: joining drawer fronts with MAXIMERA drawers.
- Not suitable for: doors or dummy drawer fronts used as doors.
- Maximum total height of fronts: ↕600 mm
- Dimensions: ↔70 mm width x ⤢40 mm thickness x ↕560 mm length.
Installation
- These connecting rails must be installed before fitting the MAXIMERA drawer.
- Refer to IKEA’s assembly guide based on the number of fronts to be joined.
