Natural variations in wooden doors

Solution to warping and bowing in CUBRO doors:understanding the nature of our plywood products, common causes, and solutions.

Wood is a natural product that, due to its properties, may experience changes over time. It is common for doors made from birch plywood (our LAMINATE and LINOLEUM ranges) to suffer from warping or bowing due to variations in humidity and temperature between their place of manufacture (Madrid) and their final destination.

At CUBRO, we are committed to the quality of our products and want to address this issue so that you understand and manage these situations appropriately.

What is warping or bowing?

Warping or bowing is a deformation that occurs in wood when it is exposed to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. Wood absorbs and releases moisture according to the environment, which can cause it to expand or contract, leading to deformation.

Why does warping or bowing occur in wooden doors?

The most common reasons are:

  • Humidity changes: Kitchens are often places with humidity variations due to cooking and cleaning. If the door is exposed to a humid environment, it can absorb that moisture and expand.
  • Temperature differences: Exposure to heat sources, such as ovens or stoves, can cause one part of the door to heat up more than another, leading to warping.
  • Improper installation: A door that has not been installed correctly can undergo stresses that encourage deformation.

CUBRO's stance on warping or bowing

Acclimation of the fronts

Importance of acclimating CUBRO fronts:

  • The fronts from the LAMINATE and LINOLEUM ranges are made from birch wood, which can have slight variations due to temperature and humidity as it is treated with natural oils and waxes.
  • Before assembly, it is necessary to acclimate them by leaving them out of the package in a dry and flat place for a week. Follow this guide to ensure the best conditions in the assembly of the fronts. Download your acclimation guide.

Tensioners

Design for durability:

  • Our large doors are designed with durability and stability in mind. Aware that humidity changes can cause deformations in some doors, we have incorporated a specially designed tensioner mechanism to correct such variations.
  • This system not only guarantees the longevity of the door but also ensures that it maintains its shape and aesthetics over time.

Warranty

Natural recovery:

  • It is important to note that most deformations in natural wood tend to return to their original state once installed in their new destination and the wood regains its original properties.

Warranty policy:

  • Our warranty comes into effect only after 6 months from receiving the doors.
  • If after this period and having followed our acclimation process you still observe deformations in your fronts, we offer a limited warranty that covers manufacturing defects.
  • If you believe that the warping or bowing is the result of a manufacturing defect, please contact us by email attaching detailed photos for a review and possible replacement.
