Finishes: LAMINATE

Detailed guide on LAMINATE: recommendations, material properties, maintenance and care, repair, and certificates.

The LAMINATE range is an ultra-matte, fingerprint-resistant finish option that combines a colour surface with a birch plywood edge.

It's a material very resistant to daily use and suitable for use in all types of furniture. Its surface is repairable.

We produce this range in our workshops. The production of this range is carried out in our workshops using Fénix, Abet Laminati, and Formica materials.

LAMINATE fronts are available in a colourful palette of colours. They can be customised with various types of handles:

Integrated handles

  • ROUND
  • SQUARE
  • PILL

Surface handles

  • Plantea
  • Line
  • Super Line
  • Seta
  • Curve

Kitchen countertops

The surface of the LAMINATE fronts is prepared for food handling, exposure to sharp materials or heat. It is a compact material and very resistant to daily use. It is very easy to clean.

We offer a carefully selected colour palette that ranges from neutral to colourful tones. The birch plywood board is a stable and durable board that performs perfectly in humid environments. Its use in furniture is very common, especially in Northern Europe.

To ensure the best performance of the board, we finish the fronts by hand. We sand, bevel, and oil them to achieve a smooth and durable finish. The birch wood that we use to produce our boards comes from sustainably managed forests.

Certifications

When we talk about the origin of the wood used in our finishes, it is essential to ensure that it comes from sustainably managed forests. For this, there are two important certifications: PEFC and FSC. These certifications guarantee that the raw material is obtained responsibly, thus protecting the environment and promoting sustainable forestry practices.

  • PEFC: The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. The PEFC certification confirms that the raw material used to make the product has been obtained sustainably.

FSC: The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a certification system that ensures that the product comes from forests with sustainable management in ecological, social, and economic aspects, among others.

Coating

A high-pressure laminate sheet (HPL - High Pressure Laminate) is glued onto this board. The manufacture of HPL is carried out from kraft paper sheets subjected to high pressures and temperatures until they compact into a thin sheet. The last layer of kraft sheets is decorative. It is the sheet that carries the colour. It can also be of brushed aluminium.

The laminate is a finish that is very resistant to daily use. Its surface is compact so it does not absorb dirt.
Its touch is soft. Its surface is completely matte and does not reflect light. Its surface is fingerprint-resistant.

Properties

Each finish has its own unique characteristics and properties. We recommend that you assess which finish is ideal for the use you are going to give to your furniture. Here are our recommendations, but you will know better than anyone which one suits you best.

Resistance to daily use

Here are the details on how this material behaves in use:

The basic care and exposure to heat, bumps, scratches, and stains on the doors and drawers is much less than that experienced by a countertop.

Cleaning and maintenance

LAMINATE is a material enhanced with resistant technology and is very easy to clean. We recommend treating all fronts with care and carrying out regular cleaning to prevent dirt from accumulating on the surfaces.

Please, be careful to avoid knocks and scratches that could damage the surfaces. If the LAMINATE surface suffers superficial damage, it can be repaired.

Daily cleaning

The most recommended method for cleaning a laminate surface is hot water. Since the laminate is resistant, you can also use any household cleaning product and even solvents like acetone if necessary. In the latter case, always follow the product's instructions.

To prevent damage to the structure, DO NOT use:

  • Products containing abrasive components as they damage the surface.
  • Abrasive sponges or metal scourers.
  • Furniture polishes or wax-based products as they tend to leave a greasy layer on the fronts that traps dirt.

For daily cleaning:

  • Apply water or a household cleaning product.
  • Rinse with hot water to avoid leaving residues.
  • Dry with a clean cloth.
  • If the stain persists, DO NOT use abrasive creams or scourers.

Stubborn stains

If regular cleaning has not been carried out and a stain has persisted and hardened, follow these instructions to remove it:

Step 1

  • Spray a kitchen degreaser over the entire surface.
  • Use hot water and gently rub with a clean cloth to remove any residue.
  • Rinse the surface with plenty of hot water and dry with a clean cloth.

Step 2

  • Spray a limescale remover product over the entire surface.
  • Use hot water and gently rub with a clean cloth to remove any residue.
  • Rinse the surface with plenty of hot water and dry with a clean cloth.

Step 3

  • Rub a melamine sponge or magic eraser sponge in circular motions.
  • Rinse the surface with plenty of hot water and dry with a clean cloth.

If a stain still remains, you can apply acetone to the affected area. Always follow the safety instructions for the product. After applying it, remember to rinse well and dry the surface.

Scratch Repair

We recommend that you handle your fronts with care:

  • Do not cut or use sharp objects directly on the surfaces. Use a protective cutting board.
  • Do not place very hot objects or objects fresh from the heat directly on them.

If scratches occur on the surface, they can be repaired by applying heat.

Recommendations

  • The fronts should be stored flat on the floor. They should never be placed vertically or leaned against a wall.
  • Since this range is made with birch plywood boards, the fronts will need to undergo an acclimatisation process. In this process, the fronts adapt to the humidity and temperature conditions. Please follow the instructions provided in our acclimatisation guide.
  • If the fronts are stored for a period of time, we recommend the following environmental conditions:
    • Temperature: between 10°C and 40°C
    • Humidity: between 30% and 70%
  • Upon receipt of the fronts, they should be checked immediately to report any possible damage during transport to our after-sales team.
  • The characteristics of the material do not allow it to be used as a work surface.
  • The panels can be cut during assembly with a regular saw blade. To do this, you must ensure that the blade is sharp.
