Finishes: LINOLEUM

Detailed guide on LINOLEUM: recommendations, material properties, maintenance and care, repair, and certificates.

The LINOLEUM range is a sustainable and natural finishing option that combines a velvety surface in color with an edge in birch plywood. It is a material with unique properties made from natural components and suitable for use in all types of furniture.

Linoleum is manufactured with natural materials, making it an organic and sustainable material. It is a soft material that diffuses light, creating an elegant and distinguished surface.

If you choose this material, you should be aware that, being natural, there may be variations in its tone. The color you see in the sample may not be exactly the same as what you receive on your fronts.

We produce this range in our workshops, with Forbo being our supplier. LINOLEUM fronts are available in a colorful palette of colors. They can be customized with various types of handles:

Integrated handles

  • ROUND
  • SQUARE
  • PILL
  • U-SHAPE

Surface handles

  • Plantea
  • Line
  • Super Line
  • Seta
  • Curve

LINOLEUM Countertops

We offer a carefully selected palette of neutral tones. Birch plywood is a stable and durable board that performs perfectly in humid environments. Its use in furniture is very common, especially in northern Europe.

The surface of the LINOLEUM fronts is prepared for use as a countertop. Still, being a natural material, it needs special care. It is important to handle food with caution and avoid sharp objects or direct heat.

Being a natural material, it is porous, so it is sensitive to stains and exposure to light. It is recommended to apply a maintenance treatment and clean it with a specific soap.

To ensure the best performance of the board, we finish the fronts by hand. We sand, bevel, and oil each piece to achieve a smooth and durable finish.

Certifications

When we talk about the origin of the wood used in our finishes, it is essential to ensure that it comes from sustainably managed forests. For this, there are two important certifications: PEFC and FSC. These certifications guarantee that the raw material is obtained responsibly, thus protecting the environment and promoting sustainable forestry practices.

  • PEFC: The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. The PEFC certification confirms that the raw material used to make the product has been obtained sustainably.

  • FSC: The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a certification system that ensures that the product comes from forests with sustainable management in ecological, social, and economic aspects, among others.

Coating

The coating of this board is bonded to a LINOLEUM sheet, which is made from cork powder, linseed oil, and pine resin. All these ingredients are mixed to form a mass that is then flattened into a sheet. Its texture is plush, soft, and velvety.

It is a finish that is:

  • Resistant to daily use.
  • Its surface is fingerprint-resistant and has repairable properties.
  • Its touch is soft.
  • Its surface is completely matte and does not reflect light.

Properties

Each finish has its unique characteristics and properties. We recommend that you assess which finish is ideal for the use you will give to your furniture. Here are our recommendations.

Resistance to daily use:

We detail how this material behaves regarding its use. Basic care and exposure to heat, impacts, scratches, and stains on doors and drawers are much less than what a countertop undergoes.

Cleaning
Cleaning

LINOLEUM is a sustainable material made from natural materials. We recommend treating all fronts with care and regular cleaning to prevent dirt from accumulating on the surfaces. In the case of LINOLEUM its surface must be treated with specific products to maintain the natural beauty of the material.

Please pay attention to avoid bumps and scratches that may damage the surfaces. If the surface of LINOLEUM is superficially damaged, it can be reworked.

Daily cleaning

The best way to clean a LINOLEUM surface is to use a specific cleaning product for linoleum. You can also apply a beeswax by the Guardian brand.

To avoid damaging the surface, DO NOT use:

  • Products containing abrasive components as they damage the surface.
  • Abrasive sponges or metallic scouring pads.
  • Furniture polishes or wax-based products as they tend to leave a greasy film on the fronts that traps dirt.

For daily cleaning

  • Remove dirt from the surface with a soft cloth.
  • Apply water if necessary to remove stains
  • Wipe dry with a clean cloth
  • Apply special linoleum soap with a soft cotton cloth

Stubborn stains

If regular cleaning has not been carried out and a stain has persisted and hardened, follow these instructions to remove it.

Step 1

  • Use warm water and rub gently with a clean cloth to remove any residue.
  • Rinse the surface with plenty of hot water and dry with a clean cloth.

Step 2

  • Spray an anti-limescale product over the entire surface.
  • Use warm water and rub gently with a clean cloth to remove any residue.
  • Rinse the surface with plenty of hot water and dry with a clean cloth.

Step 3

  • Rub a melamine sponge or magic sponge in a circular motion.
  • Rinse the surface with plenty of warm water and dry with a clean cloth.

If any stains remain, you can apply acetone to the affected area. Always follow the safety instructions on the product. After application, remember to rinse thoroughly and dry the surface.

Scratch Repair

We recommend that you handle your fronts with care:

  • Do not cut or use sharp objects directly on the surfaces. Use a protective cutting board.
  • Do not place very hot objects or objects fresh from the heat directly on them.

Scratches on the surface can be repaired.

Recommendations

  • The fronts should be stored flat on the floor. They should never be placed vertically or leaned against a wall.
  • Since this range is made with birch plywood boards, the fronts will need to undergo an acclimatisation process. In this process, the fronts adapt to the humidity and temperature conditions. Please follow the instructions provided in our acclimatisation guide.
  • If the fronts are stored for a period of time, we recommend the following environmental conditions:
  • Temperature: between 10°C and 40°C
  • Humidity: between 30% and 70%
  • Upon receipt of the fronts, they should be checked immediately to report any possible damage during transport to our after-sales team.
  • The characteristics of the material do not allow it to be used as a work surface.
  • The panels can be cut during assembly with a regular saw blade. To do this, you must ensure that the blade is sharp.
